Getting Around in Portugal
Travellers can explore the many delights of Portugal using various modes of transportation. For instance, they would be able to visit the different popular spots around cities like Lisbon on bicycles. They can choose to either rent one or bring their own. However, for those who wish to transport their bicycles on aeroplanes, they must remember to check with the airline first if they would be allowed to do this. Furthermore, they need to let out some of the air from the tyres in order to prevent these from bursting in the low-pressure hold of the plane.
Visitors can also get around the country using buses. These tend to be slower and more uncomfortable than trains, unfortunately, but they cost less so budget travellers would certainly appreciate this fact. Buses also offer discounts for passengers who are under 26 years of age as well as discounts for students and senior citizens.
Trains are a great way to travel around Portugal, too. They are comfortable and depart generally on schedule, so there would be no need to put up with interminable waiting times. However, passengers need to make sure that they would be able to procure a rail pass since, without one, the costs of taking the train can be as expensive as flying on a plane.
One thing that travellers need to keep in mind when they are visiting Portugal is that they need to make all their reservations in advance, especially if they intend to stay during the tourist peak season in the Algarve region from the middle of June to September.
